Program Description

Event Details

Colonial Times and horologist - Richard Cranch, story is extremely important. He immigrated from England, struggled in early colonial businesses, lived through turbulent times leading up to Revolutionary War, through the war, afterwards.  History books tend to completely gloss over how colonial families suffered during the Revolutionary War.

Richard Cranch was a brother-in-law to both John Adams and Abigail Adams; he married Abigail's old sister, Mary and introduced John to Abigail.  The Adams were two enormous 18th century figures.  We learn much about their lives through the many hundreds of letters written between them and other family and friends.

Cranch's customers were a diverse group of individuals - many important Bostonians both Patriots and loyalists.
